Tour Guides are trained to lead and facilitate guided tours of the Saxton McKinley House. Tour Guides are trained by the NFLL Staff using an approved script to talk about the life of Ida Saxton McKinley and create a unique experience for guests that showcases the life of a First Family and First Lady using the historic home as the setting for the story.
Warmly welcome guests to the NFLL and provide a brief site orientation for them
Be able to answer basic questions about the history of our organization, the current exhibit, and the First Ladies
Keep track of time to ensure tours begin and end on time
Provide a 30-45 minute guided tour to guests, that is based off of the approved script
Be responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of all guests, staff, other volunteers and/or artifacts while on tour
Stay up-to-date on First Lady history and current events by utilizing the materials available on the NFLL website, the onsite Docent Library and/or trainings held by NFLL Staff for volunteers.
Training and Experience:
Must enjoy working with, and speaking in front of, large groups of people
Must be willing and open to continue to learn
Must be committed and patient to train for this position both onsite and at home
Must be willing to learn and participate in additional trainings
Experience in hospitality, history and/or customer service is a plus but not necessary
