About the Hoover Historical Center (HHC)
The HHC is located on Walsh University's north campus inside Hoover Park, original Hoover family farmland. Our mission is preserve the legacy of The Hoover Company from 1908 - 2008, during which time the Company was built and headquartered in North Canton, Ohio.
About this Volunteer Opportunity
The HHC recruits volunteers to serve as trained tour guides of the Hoover Family Home and Tannery. Interested volunteers should:
Be interested in history, specifically as it relates to the town of North Canton, The Hoover Company, vacuum cleaners, science and industry.
Be friendly, courteous and willing to work with a diverse group of people
Willing to learn and continue to learn!
Be 18 and over or accompanied by a parent to volunteer
All training for this position is provided by the HHC.
Scheduling & Availability
The HHC is open to the public from March – October, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. Group tours are also accommodated throughout the week. Volunteer Docents must be available to work at least 2 shifts per month, preferably one weekday and one Saturday. However, the HHC will work with volunteers to find the shift that works best for them.
Docents have the opportunity to play a part in continuing the legacy of The Hoover Company on North Canton. They also:
Track their hours and years of service to HHC; awards and special recognition is available yearly
Invitation to the annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, usually held in April.
